For more than 40 years, Volunteer Fairfax has been the heart of volunteering in Fairfax County. We match the skills and interests of volunteers and donors to the needs of local nonprofit organizations, helping to build a better community through service. Through a variety of programs and services, we strengthen the capacity of our nonprofit members and offer meaningful volunteer opportunities for our citizens.
Volunteer Fairfax is the designated lead agency for Emergency Support Function (ESF) 16 in Fairfax County: Volunteer and Donations Management. During emergencies we recruit affiliated volunteers and manage spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteers the recruitment and deployment of affiliated and spontaneous volunteers during an emergency. Recent activations (virtual and physical) have included the blizzard of January 2016, the Derecho in July 2012, Presidential Inauguration in January 2009, and the Huntington Flood cleanup in May 2006.
